CONFEDERATION OF TRADE UNIONS 90 OF SLOVENIA

Project Description

The Confederation of Trade Unions 90 of Slovenia is a representative trade union organization at the national level. It unites various independent trade unions in the private and public sectors, as well as professional unions and regionally organized trade union organizations. It is financed exclusively from its own resources – from the membership fees of its members. It operates independently of political parties and regardless of the political, national or religious affiliation of individual members.

The goals of integration and operation are primarily:

concluding collective contracts, agreements and agreements,
preserving the foundations of the welfare state,
representing workers’ interests in labor and social legislation,
enforcing human rights, economic and social standards from international conventions and European charters,
impact on wages and wage policy,
improving the legal security of workers and union members,
employment and education,
improving working conditions, safety and health,
enforcing trade union rights, developing trade union organization and solidarity, and action cooperation and networking with other trade unions,
organizing demonstrations and strikes in support of the enforcement of interests, laws and collective agreements.
The set goals represent a constant challenge for our operations at all levels of organization: in companies and institutions, at the regional level and in activities. We assert our status as a representative trade union confederation at the national level as a member of the Economic and Social Council of the Republic of Slovenia and as negotiators and signatories of numerous agreements, agreements and collective contracts at the national level. We have our representatives in various public institutions, e.g. in the Assembly of the Health Insurance Institute, the Assembly of the Pension and Disability Insurance Institute, in the Board of Directors of the Employment Institute of the Republic of Slovenia, in institutions in the field of education and professional standards, occupational health and safety, and sustainable development. We take social partnership responsibly, but at the same time we are aware of its limits and, under certain conditions, the inevitability of conflict between labor and capital. In such cases, we resort to organized and legal forms of trade union struggle with the aim of resolving problems at the negotiating table.

We also pay attention to cooperation with trade unions in neighboring countries, especially regarding cross-border employment and the coordination of economic and social standards. We are members of the Interregional Trade Union Council for Friuli Venezia Giulia and Slovenia, which connects trade unions on both sides of the border. Through this organization, we are also affiliated with the European Trade Union Confederation.

KS 90 was founded on February 8, 1991 in Kranj as a reflection of the socio-economic, political and trade union conditions at that time. After Slovenia’s independence and the turbulent times of transition, our confederation is now facing new challenges. We are involved in the processes of changes in the welfare state, in the urgent changes in the labor market, which are required by new global and domestic economic conditions and the process of globalization. We insist that social security and social rights are a necessary component of civilization and economic development. Employment, decent pay, rights to health and pension protection and a healthy environment are for us the fundamental elements of an orderly and successful society.
